We are so blessed to be a part of a great nation. In fact, I have been told that much of the world doesn’t have clean drinking water. But for us, we simply go to the faucet, turn it on and we have water. I have also been told that if a person makes as little as $25000 per year, much of the world would consider that to be great riches. It is true, many people in our country don’t make that much either, but the majority do.
Materialism is a great deceptive web that Satan has used since the creation of man. In fact, if you think about it, the thing Satan used to tempt Eve in the Garden of Eden was material. In other words, through a piece of fruit, Eve believed she could be God. She was tempted to think that she could have everything for herself. (Genesis 3)
Sadly, material things are still being used by Satan to deceive people all over the earth. Even the most wealthy, long for more. And worse, the Church, God’s people, are enticed to follow after materialism. Having more to make yourself happy. Let me be clear, things are not bad any more than the fruit Eve ate was not bad. But Satan was able to use it to get to Eve’s heart. And he does the same thing with you and me.
Our sin is so easily enticed to follow what it wants. And it usually starts with things, stuff. And there have been many people who have had a lot of stuff, people of God. For example, Abraham was a wealthy man, Solomon was a wealthy man, David was a wealthy man, Joseph was second in command to Pharaoh in Egypt. It is not things that make a person follow Satan, but the love for those things. (1 Timothy 6)
One day, God will destroy the earth and all its stuff, because it can distract from what is the best, living life for God. My friend, if you are attracted to stuff more than you are to God, He has a message for you. He loves you and has a plan to give you much more than your stuff will give you. He wants to give you eternal life, with all its joy and peace. Again, its not wrong to have stuff, but it is not going to help you gain joy. Only God can do that. It would be better to give up the stuff if you need to, and fix you attention on Jesus. He can give you so much more than stuff can.
